search multiple drives

Post by *Captain Quack »

I have 4 (and sometimes more) drives on my system and I do a lot of searches across all drives. is there something I missed that will allow it to default to search all local Harddisks instead of me having to tell it to each time?

You can save search preset and create buttonbar button or usercommand (with hotkey, you can even redefine standard Alt+F7) to load it (command LOADSEARCH), so you won't need to set some options every time.

open the search dialog, press there the "Drivers" button and in the new dialog the Local Harddisks button and accept it with OK.

or type it manually like that in the "search in" textfield

Code: Select all

If you really do "a lot of searches across all drives" you might want to look at Everything and it's integration with TC.

I understand about the drive button. what I am trying to do is when I hit ALT-F7 I would like the default for "Search In" to be all the drives instead of having to go and click "local Harddisks" then click ok. IE: I would like it to be C:\;E:\;F:\ as default.

Here's a recipe in 18 easy steps:

1. Press Alt+F7.
2. Click the "Drives" button.
3. Click the "Local Harddisks" button (add more drive if you need/have them).
4. Click "OK".
5. Click the "Load/Save" tab.
6. Click the "Save" button.
7. Write for example AllDrives and click "OK".
8. Click the "Cancel" button to close the Find Files window.

9. In the Main menu click "Configuration" -> "Options..." -> "Misc.".
10. In the section "Redifine hotkeys (keyboard remapping)" click in the box marked "Alt +" and scroll down to F7 in the dropdown box.
11. Click on the button with the magnifying glass to the right of the "Command:" field.

12. In the Choose Command window scroll all the way down to usercmd.ini in the Category list on the left.
13. Click the "New" button.
14. Write for example em_searchalldrives and click "OK"
15. Write LOADSEARCH AllDrives in the "Command:" field and press "OK".
16. Press "OK" to close the Choose Command window.

17. Back in the Configuration window click on the button with the green checkmark.
18. Click "OK"

Press Alt+F7 to see if it works....
