Configuring TC
I'm finding configuring TE (32bit) a challenge. Needing a column that displays Folder Size (i.e. the size of both files and folders) is frankly the biggest reason I'm dumping Windows Explorer in Win7 and 8.
I wanted the WinE style nav pane, and eventually (not sure how) I stumbled onto something...

please remove the line breaks to see my attempt to get a WindowsExplorer-like nav pane view. I have no idea if I did it optimally.
Also:
How can I move a file? When I drag a file in the right pane to a folder (on the same drive) in the left pane, it copies instead of moves it.
How can I get the right pane to display with one instead of two clicks on a item in the left pane?
I'm finding column configuration particularly confusing. "Configure Custom Columns"|New|Add column
Shows a number of Size versions, but I didn't find any to give me Folder Size.
I found Free Commander pretty easy to configure, but it's 64-bit version (which I plan to need someday) is still in beta.[/img]

Thank you kindly, Gral!
Oh, I just figured out this myself:
This gives me hope I've got my panes as I hoped.
However, I'm still stumped as to Moving files, and configuring Columns. I swear I did lots of googling and exploring options before bothering y'all.

Oh! I see in the FAQ for menu_file_copymovecoyote wrote:How can I move a file? When I drag a file in the right pane to a folder (on the same drive) in the left pane, it copies instead of moves it.
"To copy or move files, select them with the pen or with Shift+cursor keys (HPC or HPC Pro) and select Copy/Move from the menu or click the copy icon."
But very much I want to just drag-and-drop. And I see no Copy/Move menu item. I imagine I could add a such a button to the toolbar but again, I want to just drag-and-drop.

For a custom column, showing the size of folders and files, you just need DirSizeCalc Content Plugin
After installing it by doubleclick on the zip file, you can find it on "Configure Custom Columns"|New|Add column"
You just have to click on the rightmost "+" button

Explorer does D&D in a confusing way: Move if on same partition, Copy if on different partitions. How can I move a file? When I drag a file in the right pane to a folder (on the same drive) in the left pane, it copies instead of moves it.
TC does it trustful: Always copy on D&D !
If you want to move by D&D, you may do it by:
- D&D with left mouse button and SHIFT-key pressed
- D&D with right mouse button and select "Move" from context menu

Sorry SGA_Wizard, I just now found and installed that plugin. Thank you very much for your helpful reply!sqa_wizard wrote:For a custom column, showing the size of folders and files, you just need DirSizeCalc Content Plugin

I can't figure out how to delete the Ext column (I'm viewing extension in the name column).

Sweet, I like that, I'll just make it narrow. (And now I can forget about adding a FileType column which I was just about to do.)sqa_wizard wrote:This is by design (you can still sort by EXT this way)I can't figure out how to delete the Ext column (I'm viewing extension in the name column).
Must Ext be directly to the right of Name (I wanted to make it the rightmost column)?
Re: Configuring TC
D&D ... If you leftclicked a file and move the cursor e.g. to the other window ... there is a little icon under the cursor (a + for copy). If you hold the left mouse button and click the right mouse button too, the icon will change (to a - for move).coyote wrote:How can I move a file? Re: Configuring TC
1.
a. Is there a way to make Move be LeftClick behavior and Copy be RightClick+ LeftClick behavior?
b. Is there a way to avoid the window in which I subsequently need to click OK in to confirm/allow the Move?
2.
New question: by simply hiding one side thusly, it is still using resources, and if so is there a way to avoid or minimize this waste of resources?
3.
Now that I understand configuring columns, I'm impressed with the power available, and that even as a noob I could edit Field Contents I to achieve an option not found in the dropdown [=tc.creationdate.Y-M-D h
s].
Yay! Thank you very much ate, I feared D&D Move was not possible between those windows! Just two things:ate wrote:D&D ... 2.
I remembered how: I dragged the vertical divider between the two sides from 50% to .2%. So I've merely hidden one side. (Sorry I don't know the technical terms…were their originally two 'panels' each with two 'panes'?)coyote wrote:I wanted the WinE style nav pane, and eventually (not sure how) I stumbled onto something...

p.s.
I have a two new questions, perhaps it's best if I tack it on here instead of in a brand new thread…
1.
When I left-click a file or folder in the right of the two panes I've got visible, it treats it as an ENTER. Whereas I'd like to simply select it (usually to rename it, in the case of files to their foldername). I see I can Ctrl-LeftClick to Select, however:
a. Is there a way to make Select be LeftClick behavior and ENTER be Ctrl+LeftClick behavior?
b. As I mentioned, I very frequently want to rename a single file to = it's foldername. When I press Ctrl-M can I do that with the Multi-Rename tool by default? And any way to rename via F2 instead of Ctrl-M?
2.
Is there a way to avoid confirmation dialogs for deletions? (In Configuration|Misc the only "Get confirmation before" which I have checked is "Overwriting files.)
