Hey All, I can't figure out how to compare two directories to copy the files from one folder to another.
here is the scenario I have. On the left side I have a folder that has 500 files. On the right side I have a folder that has 100 of those files. Some of the files on the left side have been updated and some haven't. I want to mark all the files that are in the right side on the left side and then copy the files from the left side to the right side, no matter if they have changed or not.
Is this possible? I have tried compare, but it only marks the ones I don't have and that have changed.
I think i have done it in the past but lord knows I can't recall how I did it.
So to recap. if I have these files on the left side:
hello.txt
Hi.log
Help.dev
and on the right side I h ave the files:
hello.txt
hi.log
and I want to have total commander compare the two folders and mark the hello.txt and hi.log on the left side (even if they have changed from the right side) so that I can copy them over to the right side and over wright the files.
Is this possible?
Thanks!

Try using Commands - Synchronize dirs - it will mark files which are newer with an arrow. You can also choose to hide files which exist on both sides, or those which exist just on one side, depending on your needs.

I hate to ask but could you give me an example? I cannot seem to figure the sequence to get all the ones from the left panel copied over the right one. If you have time. If not I'll just continue to select them and copy them over.ghisler(Author) wrote:Try using Commands - Synchronize dirs - it will mark files which are newer with an arrow. - select another folder in right panel
- launch Files > Sync Dirs...
- click on [Compare]
- click on one after the other button below of "Show" to see what happens
Press F1 key on keyboard to open the help for more information.
Still unclear?

You must be using a non standard menu - the default is: "Commands" -> "Synchronize Dirs..."- launch Files > Sync Dirs...
