User shortcut to a menu command. How to?

Post by *BlackWinny »

Hello everybody

How can one create a user keyboard shortcut for a command in the menus?

Example: I would like to use a keyboard shortcut (say "Ctrl+Alt+Fn") for the "Synchronize dirs" tool. How must I proceed please?

Thank you!

In the configuration under Misc
There you find Redefine Hotkeys.

With your information I have managed to affect F12 to the command "cm_FileSync", and it works perfect.

May I profit of this opportunity to suggest Christian a little thing? It appears that one must do this operation with an enormous attention to not overwrite a shortcut already affected by default (the full reading of the page displayed by the menu "Help" > "Keyboard" has been very useful to choose a non yet affected shortcut). So... it would be nice (if it's not a mess for Christian) to display in the little field the command already affected if there's already one for this combination of keys currently tried to affect). I see that the little combo box displays only the user shortcuts, but not the default shortcuts.

I agree the built in facilities to change shortcuts are a bit limited and should be improved.

However for advanced editing you could use Hotkey Editor which you can find in the ultra tc editors: http://utceditors.totalcmd.net/

Wow! Thanks!

Such pages should show a button "Donation"! For tools like these... I would donate!

BTW it would be useful just to add shortcut keys to descriptions of commands in command browser. It would allow both to see if one is already assigned and to search for a command by shortcut with no code changes.
