There is no setting for that, but you can create a custom drive library contains empty icons like this one, download it then add DriveLib=path\to\downloaded\file to your Wincmd.ini file under Configuration section and restart TC.


There are many drive library here, you can download anyone and edit icon inside it to hide the drive type you want, e.g. hide CD-ROM only and keep all others.

BTW: if you want to hide icons to get extra space, this method will not help because the drive button width is the same with or without icon.

Perhaps hiding some drives will help better. List drive letters in DriveBarHide parameter of wincmd.ini (refer to TOTALCMD.chm section 4.b for details). Also try to enable HideRemovableNoMedia parameter if you're using a card reader which reserves a lot of drive letters.

thanks all - i had worked out how to edit the file to get rid of the icon but as said that does not reduce the box which is what i wanted to achieve - and i run with the minimum drives showing - but with a 4 drive nas - 2 HDD's with a couple of partitions each and other bits it gets a bit cluttered - i dont need pictures of drives just letters

maybe a setting for the future - meantime i will manage - i've been with totalcmd a long time - no intention of that minor irritation distracting me - but no harm in asking if it was available

You can still have drop-down list of drives (Alt+F1, Alt+F2) and directory hotlist (Ctrl+D) which you can tune as you wish. Also there is an option to show one long drive button panel instead of two ones.

thanks - yes know all/most of that - just me wanting something - its no big deal - i had not found the function for no drive buttons so wondered if i had missed it

i guess sometimes a request can result in adding a new feature in a future build - other times not
