I wasn't posting a URL but Can't reply? (anti-spam system)

Post by *TomHale »

Hi there,

I'm trying to get some help on SFTP, so was trying to reply there when I got the message:

-----------------
In order to try to prevent spammers, we do not allow our users to post URLs in any form until they have posted at least 1 legitimate posts and have been with us for more than 1 days. We appreciate your understanding in this matter in order to help us eliminate spam from this forum. If you have somehow gotten this message even though you meet both of the criteria, please let us know ASAP.
-------------------

I wasn't posting a URL, so I don't know why this is appearing. Any suggestions?

Nope, not yet... perhaps I need to wait 24hrs?

Did anyone else need to wait a day?

Bug in new user posting rules

Post by *TomHale »

I'm not exactly sure where to post this, sorry if this is the wrong spot:

As a new user, I was unable to post the below line with a '.' after the '0'. However, removing the '.' allowed me to post.

I can only guess that this version number was incorrectly being treated as a URL.

The line was:
I'm using the sftp 1.4.63 plugin and the binaries from curl 7.34.0.

No. This rule if only for TomHale from Australia.

No! Just kidding.
This is a spam preventing system for not to join+post on the go as spammer would do.
(yes, there are other possibilities for them too, but this is just one way to keep this forum a little bit more clean)

If you are a new registered user you have to wait a day and one post before you are able to post URLs.

For that time frame being, just make your URLs un-clickable by using underscores instead of the first dot or adding a space or two:

https://www.google.com/
https :// www .google.com/

In order to try to prevent spammers, we do not allow our users to post
URLs in any form until they have posted at least 1 legitimate posts and
have been with us for more than 1 days.

We appreciate your understanding in this matter
in order to help us eliminate spam from this forum.

If you have somehow gotten this message even though
you meet both of the criteria, please let us know ASAP.
