How can I get back the old TC look (narrower spaces)?

Post by *blob »

Upgrading from 8.01 to 8.51a changed somehow the look of the files and directories displayed in TC (spaces between rows seem wider than in the old version)? Is there an option to tick to make the old look come back?

Maybe you can fix it by chosing another font/size? Or maybe column width?

It seems that the icons are bigger in the newest version, and they make the space between rows wider comparing to ver. 8.01. How can I make the icons as small as in the old version??

Sorry, cannot confirm. Icon size may be set in configuration so nothing has changed here. I opened TC 7.56a, and filelist looks absolutely like in 8.51a.
You can try downloading TC 8.01 and just extract TOTALCMD.exe from it into TC dir (with different name) and run both side by side in order to see differences. Screenshot could show what are you're talking about.

I only installed the newest version over the old version not changing anything in the configuration, and yet the look has changed, and it was obvious immediatelly after running the new version of TC again, as the change in the look was so clearly visible and rather disturbing.

I made a screenshot of TC 7.56a, which is still installed on another computer, and compared it with 8.51a now, and they look different (wider spaces between rows in the newest version):

Do you have a high-DPI screen or set the Windows-DPI scaler to a non-default value?
TC 8.50 introduced support for high resolution screens and therefore some display elements might scale differently.

Yes, it is 150%.

Well, I don't like it here, because only the size of the icons changed to larger ones and not the text. I was comfortable with the old look, so I would prefer to have the old small icons.
OK, found it, changed icons from 32x32 to 16x16, and it is fine now.

I haven't tried it yet, but according to posts like this
or this one, you can use an INI setting OverrideDpi.

Maybe start with 120 and see when it comes close to the old looks.

Edit: I see, just the icons...in that case ignore it.

You can configure line heigh by adding MinLineHeight to Wincmd.ini under Configuration section
Help wrote:MinLineHeight
Sets minimum line height (in pixels) in file lists if the given value is >0. If it is negative, the absolute value is added to the normal line height, e.g. MinLineHeight=-2, height=16 -> 18

Yes, TC uses 32x32 icons on 150 dpi or higher resolution screens. But as you found out yourself, you can set it to 16x16 manually.
