Search omitting first part of filename

Post by *AnthonyCian »

I like to know if it is possible when doing a search if I can search a section of the filename truncating another section so I can use "Find duplicate Files>Same name. For example, I have these filenames:

2014-12-16_PM-12-50-46_RE Using Mineral Structure One.rtf
2014-12-30_AM-11-52-05_RE Chabazite.rtf
2014-12-31_AM-09-52-42_RE D8 has been repaired.rtf
2015-01-02_AM-07-27-32_FW RMA for GRS site XRDs.rtf

2013-11-15_PM-12-50-46_RE Using Mineral Structure One.rtf
2013-12-30_AM-11-52-05_RE Chabazite.rtf
2013-12-31_AM-09-52-42_RE D8 has been repaired.rtf
2013-06-05_PM-07-27-32_FW RMA for GRS site XRDs.rtf

I want to be able to omit the date/time part during the search, 2015-01-02_AM-07-27-32_ which will always be 23 characters. The filenames will then be the same. This way the search will find the 8 files above because the date/time part will not be considered as part of the search criteria.

If there is another way, I am open to other suggestions. Also, I am getting up there in years and if I asked this before I have forgot. I tried a search and could not find it, but then I may not searched it correctly.

Thanks,
AC

Try to uncheck same name and check same plugin fields instead with template like [=tc.name:24-]. TC will only match parts of names starting from 24th character. You can output such template to a column of new column set to see resulting strings.

Thanks MVV, this is what I was looking for.

Can you explain the part about "output to template to a column...to see resulting string"?
My thinking about that is:
To do a CTRL-C, in the search result view window, paste in Excel...
To click on the "Feed to listbox" button...
Create a custom column, and use CTRL-B...

Any of the above is what you meant?

Create a custom column, and use CTRL-B...
This one. It will allow to see truncated names before searching for duplicates to ensure template [=tc.name:24-] is correct.
