Add "Use the explorer method of copying"

Post by *rado84 »

Is it possible to add "Use the explorer method of copying"? I know there's an option which allows TC to delete files using explorer method and it would be nice if we can get the same method for copying files. I noticed that when copying files with the TC method the speed of copying files is 10 times lower than the speed of explorer copying files. Also, it would be nice to have such a copying option because we won't have to open 2 separate windows of explorer. Especially for copying big files (from HDD to a flash drive, for instance) this option will be very useful.
When I'm copying files from the hard drive to my mp3 player the speed is between 800 KB/s and 2400 KB/s. When I do the same by opening the directory with my mp3 files and the flash drive in 2 separate windows and copy those files with the explorer method the speed starts from 22 MB/s and increases rapidly.

I hope you understand what I suggested but if not, I'll try to explain again.

These are the settings I've always had (that came with the installation). The only change I made was about deleting by the method of explorer. I can't find anything saying "use explorer copy method".

You can try different buffer settings in TC
or add a tool like FastCopy and integrate it with TC.
http://ipmsg.org/tools/fastcopy.html.en

My parameters for FastCopy buttons:

Copy
/auto_close /open_window /cmd=force_copy /estimate /acl /srcfile=%L /to="%T"
Move
/auto_close /open_window /cmd=move /estimate /acl /srcfile=%L /to="%T"

These are the settings I've always had (that came with the installation).
Those settings depends on which version of TC you installed the first time.

As from version 7.50b1 the "Use standard copy method (recommended)" is standard at new installations.

Before that (until version 7.04a) "Use default method only (reliable, not very fast)" was standard at new installations.

You should either use "Use standard copy method (recommended)" or "Also use big file copy mode (not using cache)"

I use the latter with the settings 10240 and 64 for buffer sizes for big files and 1024 and 128 buffer sizes for small files, and compatibility mode for USB sticks, and I enter the drive letters that are on the same disk. http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/copyoptions.png

I did some testing of the different option and so far only "copy paste via Explorer" performed best and the way I needed. I suppose this is the option Horst.Epp was talking about. That option is somewhat hidden among the rest and it took some time to find it.
