Images preview in file icon

Post by *astuntas »

Hello,

I would like to the the real image preview in the file icon, like in standard windows explorer, or in some alternative programs to TC.

Unfortunately, this being my first post, I am not able to post any links here. But you can google for:
"google play total commander"
and see that in android version even TC shows the real small image as a file icon.

I can use thumbnail preview in Windows version of TC, but this requires an additional key stroke and selection of each file. Setting the icon size to 64x64 and seing the real preview of the file would be perfect. Is there a way to get this in TC?

The Android version is optimized for using with finger touches, so the icons are naturally larger. The Windows version is optimized for mouse and keyboard usage, therefore it uses only 16x16 icons on standard dpi screens. You can't really recognize much on such small icons, that's why there is a separate thumbnails view.

This is reasonable, but still - is there any way (plugin or similar) to see a picture of the file instead of the standard icon?

The SageThumbs shellextension can show thumbnails as icons:
http://www.cherubicsoft.com/en/projects/sagethumbs
Options : [x] Show thumbnails as icons in Explorer

Don't worry about the "in Explorer". Works also fine in TCx64 when "Configuration -> Options...-> Icons: (o) All associated + Exe/Lnk(slow)" is enabled.

Afaik XnShell offers only a contextmenu and no thumbnail or icon provider.
Btw SageThumbs make use Pierre-e Gougelet's GFL library (XnView's author).

No problem here (w7 x64 ultimate). SageThumbs shows thumbnails as icons in both TC8.52a x64 and x86.

TC will not show icons in thumbnails if the "DefaultIcon" is set to a fixed icon. It should be removed or be set to %1 or "%1".
