Rename on ".. dir" do not change path anymore!

Post by *jmwap »

Rename on .. dir not doing anything

Hi,

I am on latest TC 32b, win7 64b.
Before, to move to some network place etc, I would go to the .. folder, hit F2 (I have mapped it to rename) and I could type \\myhost\etc for instance, to go there.

Now, since I am not sure when, when I F2 on .. nothing happens.

Anyone has a clue on how to debug this?

thanks

ok, mystery solved...
at some point I unset 'Show current dir' ,
and if this setting is not set, rename on .. does nothing
(might be by design, tough it would be very handy if it would still work by letting you write the new path over ..)

You can't do anything on the .. entry, it just stand for the dir above the current one.
Also why on earth do you want rename such an entry to a share name
just to go to this ?

Type cd \\server\share in the command line instead
or Shift-F6 on the .. and replace the path above

Yes, you can (not Obama ;)). When using the rename function on [..] TC lets you edit the current path, so you can jump to any directory.
Type cd \\server\share in the command line instead
Not everybody likes to use the command line or wants to type extra characters, even more when there's no need to do so.
or Shift-F6 on the .. and replace the path above
And that's exactly what he's trying to do. I've mapped cm_RenameOnly to F2 as well and it works to use F2 on [..] to edit the current path and jump there.

Funny, haven't known about this feature. :) Works for me on Shift+F6 on "..".
However there is a command cm_EditPath allowing editing current path regardless of focused item, I've mapped it on Alt+Up.

F2 is not the default for renaming in TC, it's used to refresh the current directory. You can set it to rename via menu Configuration - Options - Misc. Set it to F2, click on magnifying glass, and choose
cm_renameonly

That's weird. Does TC allow you to edit the path at all when you click on the path above the columns headers?

Does Shift+F6 and/or F2 (when mapped to cm_RenameOnly) work in the file panes? If neither of them does, you may have a keyboard that has some crappy assignment on the F keys so they don't work as F keys but have a different meaning.

ok, mystery solved...at some point I unset 'Show current dir' (I run a maximized etc window to use most space available), and if this setting is not set, rename on .. does nothing (might be by design, tough it would be very handy if it would still work by letting you write the new path over ..)

thanks all, specially Dalai!

Interesting, cm_EditPath doesn't work also when path bars are hidden. In contrast to Alt+F1/F2 which works even when drive comboboxes are hidden.

Aah, I see. Didn't think of this since the path bar (current dir) is not that high to add any useful height to the file list :).
