Suggestions for TC9.0
First of all, thanks ghisler for this exactly excellent software.
I’m one of the vast fans of TC from China. Expecting it optimized,we have some suggestions for TC9.0 what is creating now.
1.Make the edit/change of the attribute easier.
For example, we usually edit the comment of files in TC by pressing "Ctrl+z", as we all know, it is really not a relaxed thing, especially that when you want to edit or change many attributes created by other plugins such as "wdx_NTFSDiz 1.2.1"or "NTFS Stream 1.0.1.59"…

We sincerely hope it can be easier that by clicking the showing attribute region under the Tabstop header in the Custom Columns layout of TC, you'll find that the attribute of the corresponding file can be edited or changed directly! Everything is just like that in the software "Mp3tag"——There is no doubt that it will be very very attractive and amazing, which will make TC9.0 a big progress!

2.Set the parent dir [..] as a selectable parameter in Options or wincmd.ini.
The parent dir [..] is useless most of time.
On one hand, considerable users of TC would press "Backspace" key rather than click the parent dir [..].
On the other hand, it waste so many time when you want to find something in a folder. For those guys who use a keyboard more than a mouse, they must press "Down" key again and again, day after day, what a depressing thing it is!
Furthermore, it is necessary to say that there is also no so-called parent dir [..] in "Windows Explorer".
Finally, There was already so many argument about this as below:

……
Of couse, we will be very appreciated that if the title bar, the menu bar and the extension of Tabstop header can also be set as selectable.
I sincerely expect that it can be made! Thanks again!

Fully agree1.Make the edit/change of the attribute easier.
It is a big advantage of TC to have the possibility to edit it, but it is annoying that your are not able to edit the already visible value directly but have to create the same definition again at Attributes dialog.
There is a restriction though: You may define the content of a custom column by using multiple parts of different plugins.
So it will work for plain content of a single attribute.

Thanks for your support !
Firstly , it can be builted an option of "Open Edit"/"Lock Edit" on corresponding region of the Tabstop header, just like the context menu of the Folder Tabs. Only when you choose the "Open Edit", the attribute can be edited, and it can be used for attributes which may need often changed , such as the name and the user-defined rating from other plugins. But for attributes such as extension, size, date and so on , what you have to do is just making a choice of "Lock Edit" !
Further, ghisler can built another powerful convert system running commands in background ! Just imagine this scene, now you want to convert a picture with an extension of "jpg" into "png" , you choose the "Open Edit" of extension on the Tabstop header, then click on the corresponding extension region of this picture, type "png", knock on "Enter" key , and it's over. Is it very simple ? Now you want to set a file as "ReadOnly" or "Hidden" , you can just replace the Attr "a" with "r" or "h" . How simple it is !
In fact , what I said above is not reachless , even you can experience it at present ! Let's have a try . Now you want to change the name of a file in TC , you should knock on "Shift + F6" key , is it right ? Now try to focus on another file , click it for once after a while , see what happened ? You'll find that the name of the file can be edited directly now !

CSZ,
1. Editable file list fields.

I completely disagree with this. Doesn't mean there can't be an option. The parent dir [..] is useless most of time.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
Yeah, all fields editable should can be edited conveniently, and I'm glad to see that you made this idea two years ago. "Tab" key is also a good idea , but I think direct clicking would be better. What do you think?Hacker wrote: 2.I completely disagree with this. Doesn't mean there can't be an option.
As said above , quite a few users of TC would rather use a keyboard than a mouse , in their opinion , the parent dir [..] is useless most of time.
Of couse , there are many people who use a computer at loose ends without the mouse .
Therefore ,I suggest the parent dir [..] to be set as a selectable parameter.
Re: Suggestions for TC9.0
Until recently Explorer did have the "Up One Level" button. Some users got upset when this button was removed. Plus Explorer usually has the directory tree visible (except in File Open), and TC does not.CSZ wrote:there is also no so-called parent dir [..] in "Windows Explorer".
It was not obvious to me that Backspace has this function bound to it. I often have been going Home -> Enter in TC to go up a level. I skimmed through the menus and nowhere they suggest this key as an alternative.
If this file item was made optional, I would still use it because it makes the panel less crammed. Seeing the narrow blank line reassures me that I am at the top of the list.

Firstly, there is indeed the "Up One Level" button in "Windows Explorer" of Win10 recently, but it indeed does not locate in the top of the filelists, and it isn't convenient enough when compare to knocking of the "Backspace" key for quite a lot of people.
Secondly, I have to say that TC also has the directory tree only if you would like to set it. Please try these commands : cm_SeparateTree1 / cm_SeparateTree2 / cm_SeparateTreeOff / cm_SwitchSeparateTree / cm_ToggleSeparateTree1 / cm_ToggleSeparateTree2
I believe that you had already used TC for many years , and also you have already get used to the parent dir [..]. "Home"-> "Enter" is a way ,"Backspace" is another convenient and simple way no matter in TC or "Windows Explorer". And did you ever have heard of tools with the name of "viatc" or "vimd" created by linxinhong from China? By it many users of TC in China just need to knock "u" to go up a level. Moreover, the scroll bar can also make you aware of the top of filelists.
At last, I do not try to persuade you to give up the parent dir [..], but if it can be a selectable parameter , does't you think that as a pleasant thing for all users of TC like you and me ? In addition to powerful function, customization is also an important reason for TC as an exactly excellent software , isn't it ?
CSZ,
Roman
Direct editing should work like renaming in place, so I'd say it would be natural to use both."Tab" key is also a good idea , but I think direct clicking would be better. What do you think?

What if the files areZababa wrote:Optional retrograde sorting of file names and extensions.
I often get a bunch of extremely cleverly named files which go like
ABC_4
DEF_2
RST_1
XYZ_3
I need them sorted like this:
RST_1
DEF_2
XYZ_3
ABC_4
ABC_41
DEF_22
RST_13
XYZ_34
Are they already ordered in the "retrograde sorting"? Isn't it better to rename the file? There's too many exceptions and I don't think simple "retrograde sorting" is the solution.

Hi all,
don't know if it is a good place here for TC9 suggestions, but I have a wish..
have the possibility to use comments also for files in the file system extensions, for example webdav systems and so on.. I mean in both ways: managed by the plugin with an API extension and directly managed by TC on its own in some way..

I think that using winrar to de/compress rar archives and 7zip for other common types of archives to de/compress would solve work with different types of archives and so feed to listbox would be work ok
