Hello everyone,
I recently had to get a new computer with 64 bit Windows 7 and I had used TC on my previous XP system for years and didn't want to do without it on my new system.
I installed 64bit TC (tcmd851ax64.exe) and while going through the settings I made sure that the "Mouse selection mode" was "right mouse button":
Configuration-->Operation-->Mouse selection mode
Use right mouse button (as in NC) - context menu after 1 second
On the first day I was running TC this was working correctly.
I was able to drag my cursor over multiple files with the right mouse button held down and thus select multiple files at once (all files turned red). This is the behavior I was used to on my XP system. Note that I am still running TC in "demo mode", so I have yet to register and pay the shareware fee.
What's new was that, when holding down the right mouse button on a single file/folder, a small progress bar would appear and then the familiar behavior of the context menu appearing would take place.
Everything ok up to now.
But on the next day that I began working with my system, I noticed in TC that the multiple selection of files with the right mouse button held down and also the progress bar/context menu behavior WERE NOT WORKING ANYMORE.
And they still don't work, on the third day, on the fourth day etc.
I have tried switching between standard mouse selection mode (left button) and back to right mouse button selection mode. When I do this, the left button selection mode works properly (i.e. the context menu appears immediately and file/folder selection works properly), but when I switch back to right mouse button selection, the proper functionality as I described on my first day of use above STILL DOESN'T WORK.
I have no idea why. The only suspicion I have is that something has changed in Windows itself. Seeing as not a day passes since I installed my fresh Windows 7 system that I am inundated with new updates when shutting down the system and configuration of the same updates when I restart: could something have been changed in this Windows update process that affects exactly the functionality I am having a problem with?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions about possible solutions.
Mouse selection mode: right mouse; worked but now doesn't

Hello siba, welcome to the forum!
With switching from Windows XP to 7 a lot of things changed.
TC will remain the same, but it has to fit into the new OS.
You may use your old settings from XP, if you copy the wincmd.ini file to your current location at Win 7.
(Find it at "Help - About Total Commander")
Where is the new location?

Regarding the context menu, I guess that you installed other programs after Total Commander. One of them must have installed a right click menu shell extension which crashes that function in Total Commander.
To correct it, please try the following:
1. Get the free tool ShellExView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
2. Start it. If using Total Commander 32-bit, you need to get the 32-bit
version, otherwise the 64-bit version of ShellExView
3. Sort the shell extensions by type
4. Disable all context menu shell extensions one by one (you can hide/keep
those belonging to Windows, they are usually OK).
5. Continue until Total Commander stops crashing
6. Now you can re-enable the extensions which don't cause any problems
