Refreshing filetype icons

I changed the icon of one filetype on my system and Total Commander did not automatically update (refresh) the icon. I opened a new instance of TC and that one showed the new icon fine. I didn't want to close the current instance of TC because I was working in it and had 10 tabs open.

I did finally find a "workaround" by going to "Options -> Icons" and then then changed Icon size to 32x32 and then back to 16x16. That apparently forced TC to refresh the icons so I got it done without having to completely restart TC.

So basically I'm just wondering why TC doesn't refresh icons automatically. I guess it doesn't know when I change the icon and it would have to randomly refresh it itself, but that would potentially cause lags. Right? Just wondering.

TC caches icons by extension, this is by design.

How about flushing that cache when the user press Ctrl+R - then restarting TC wouldn't be necessary.

I use Ctrl+R when I expect to see a change in something (file name, file size, file date, file attrib, file icon etc.), but that change doesn't show up automatically.

For now, Alt-F, A, Enter works.

I have set Alt+Letter for Quick Search, but assuming I hadn't done that - do you refer to "Files" -> "Associate With" (English Menu) of as by me "Fil" -> "Associer internt (kun Total Commander)" (Danish Menu) ?

Or to say it another way - is it cm_Associate or cm_InternalAssociate that does the trick ?

Files - Associate With... - OK.
