why leading space on folder names works ?

Post by *Michael REMY »

hi,

by renaming with mistake, i create a list of folders which each name contains a leading space

i was surprised because the end space is not allowed in TC. So, why let us have a leading space in folder name ?

Just a question, not a bug.

Best regards
i'm an old long user of TC since the windows 3.11 release !, for the history, i came to tc when i migrate from amiga commodore to PC where they are diskmanager and directory opus there.

Well, Windows allows leading spaces, but not trailing ones. Note that Explorer removes leading and trailing spaces (at least on XP), but CMD allows to create directories named like " foobar". So TC just "follows the rules".

Trailing spaces are also allowed, you can create such folder with e.g. command md "foo \" in CMD (you can even do something like md "foo . . .\"). Though I understand that it is senseless and OS API trims trailing spaces and dots when folders are created in a usual way.
