TC9 beta: Check for updates with proxy & intervals

Post by *pdavit »

Not verifiable at this stage since a follow-up beta isn't ready.

Thinking preemptively here I was wondering if the manual and automated check for updates can acknowledge corporate proxies.

Without an obvious bug I'm posting here for discussion. Since the feature is experimental moderators can move this elsewhere as found fit.

This feature could be adapted to consider:

1) OS/IE Proxy settings (if configured)

2) Manually configured proxy settings

3) Validation interval, e.g.: upon startup, daily, weekly, monthly

4) Update server

Yes.

It just resolves DNS record "releaseversion.ghisler.com" and version is encoded in address (currently 10.9.0.129). So it doesn't really care about proxies.

Sob,
Unless the resolution is done or forwarded by the proxy.

I can imagine that in some strict environment it might not work. But it's probably gonna be some company network where they wouldn't let you upgrade software youself anyway.

Yes, these were my thoughts too! It wouldn't work if a company DNS server would return an internal address instead, or no address at all. TC detects both these cases and reports an error.
