Hi, I'd rather use total commander to view and open files in a synology nas (DSM 6, 1511+). I have found this thread (http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=42375) and isntalled the plugin. But I need more guidance. The reason is that I don't want to use putty and use command line editor like VI to edit files and whatnot.
Cheers.

If you installed sftpplugin latest and added the missing libraries. see http://www.ghisler.com/plugins.htm#filesys
On the "\\network" folder, you can navigate to your Secure FTP folder and create a connection to your NAS Clicking on [F7]. In your case, you will have to use root or an admin user and tick the use SCP fro everything option.
From the created connection you will connect and then browse your /var and /usr folder ....
