Maintenance of versions for legacy platforms
If a bug happens to be in the 16-bit version 6.58, will you still release maintenance fixes for this old version for Windows 3.X?
If there is some new feature or change that breaks the compatibility for Windows 95, will it be fixed in the mainstream release or there will be a kept back version like 6.58 for Windows 3.1?

Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3527)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1375a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.78
QAP 11.6.3.3 x64
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1375a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.78
QAP 11.6.3.3 x64
As I know, latest 32-bit TC is still runs on Windows 9x, and this compatibility is maintained.
Regarding compatibility with 16-bit version... Well, since latest 16-bit version is 6.58 while current one is 9.x... I think all should be clear.
May I ask, if a bug happens in Windows 3.x, will Microsoft fix it?

Win 3.x is stone age rather than legacy.

Sure, if you happen to have enough money to pay them...MVV wrote:May I ask, if a bug happens in Windows 3.x, will Microsoft fix it?

This is not a joke, I just asked out of curiosity. The 16-bit version is still available for download. I've always loved how much attention Ghisler paid to compatibility. Windows 95 is also "stone age", still Total Commander is compatible with it.
We know that Microsoft won't fix anything older than Windows 7, as it is opposing their business poilcy (you wouldn't buy their new one then).
Ghisler released 6.58 in 2008. In 2008 we could have also said that Windows 3.1 was "stone age".

If you look at HISTORY.txt of the feature release version (TC 9.x), you'll see that 6.58 has never been released as a 32-bit version. If you look at HISTORY.txt of 6.58 for 16-bit, you'll see that 6.58 is a maintenance release with lots of bug fixes. So my "clear"est assumption is that 6.X for 16-bit is kind of a "maintenance branch" with no feature updates. I was just curious if it will ever get fixes again if someone reports a bug.MVV wrote:Regarding compatibility with 16-bit version... Well, if it's something serious, I will of course fix it. But I didn't get any bug reports for this old version for many years.
