Any plugins that are simple web browser? Or search engine?

Post by *iridius »

1. Anyone know about a plugin that will act as a simple browser, in other words will show a web site in a tab within TC? I usually save 20-30 tabs in Firefox and don't want to open them all at once a lot of times for a simple web page... sometimes I'll open IE instead because it opens faster than my Firefox with mad tabs, but I'd rather do it within TC if possible.

2. How about a plugin to search google or other search engine based on the chosen file?
For example I have a file named:

The Godfather.avi

I would like to click on it and either from right click or shortcut key or button on tool bar I would like to automatically search Google (or even better IMDB) for that file name with or without the extension. Sort of like you can google selected text from within Notepad++ or from rightclick in IE or Firefox.

URL Shortcut Viewer plugin 1.1.0.0 for Total Commander can open web pages in a tab within TC.

Anyway, I suggest you to make different Firefox profiles.
One profile with all saved tabs, and another one without any.

For example, on my computer there's three Firefox profiles, each has own shortcut on Desktop. One is mine, with my bookmarks and settings, second is my wife's with her bookmarks and settings, and there's another one "for guests".

That plugin works great for the shortcuts I already have which is great when I work with my Favorites directory from IE. Thanks.

A few things would make it perfect.

1. Is there any way to open a url from it by typing in the address.
2. Is there a way to make it open in a tab on one of my panes instead of a separate window?
3. Is there a way to set it to run a search based on a filename, by selecting that filename.

thanks

URL Shortcut Viewer plugin 1.1.0.0 is no longer maintained, it would be great is someone can modify source so that it can use latest version of IE or Windows default version. Current plugin is using IE version 6.

if you want to search only you can use version2 plugin and maintain some search query yourself.

if you want to show an url you have in the clipboard inside the lister, you will have to create an intermediate url/shortcut file and launch lister or quick view on the created file.

But default lister is not viewing url files.

And how to use it? I want to be able to render .url files, which are pointing to the real url on the Internet.

My comment and the HTMLview tip is only related to your last statement
"I was more thinking about plugin that is able to display webpage in a Quick viewer panel."
So its only displaying html pages not resolving URL file targets. :(

Yes, I also figure it our. It is not that handy and very old, Javascript is not working right. Ok will remove it, to bad that TC has so many very very old plugins which are useless.

For me its perfect.
I even switched off the option for running scripts in the ini-file.
I don't want sophisticated or dangerous features while just quick-viewing files.

You can also try ULister plugin with the oracle viewers.

Useless for you do not mean useless for all. I even always keep 32bit TC as some plugin do not work for 64bit.
IE is still a light solution to render many format you can even use the markdown plugin https://github.com/wangzhfeng/MarkdownViewer/releases
and ask to add html, and url file.... It works for md fife that you can easilly generate even maintaining a full bookmark list. But Keep in mind that TC is a file manager and do not replace full Desktop nor Web Browser,.....

If you want full chrome support use chrome, same for firefox, opera, Edge...
