Directory icon is now a blue arrow instead of a folder

Post by *daktari »

Just noticed this tonight.

Windows 10
TC (x64) 8.51a

This is a dir on a LAN server. It's set as a network location in Windows.

A google search found lots of info about the compressed folders, but maybe my search terms were incorrect. One thing I noticed is this directory is no longer visible in Windows File Explorer. Another dir named Downloads also has the blue arrow, but is only visible in Windows File Explorer.

Visibility recap-

'add' - no in WFE, yes in TC
'Downloads' - yes in WFE, no in TC

Nothing to see there!

TC (x64) 8.51a
This version is more than 6 years old, you shoul update to veresion 9.51 and see if the problem still persists.

Another dir named Downloads also has the blue arrow, but is only visible in Windows File Explorer
This indicates that it is a Windows problem and not a TC problem.

I've upgraded to 9.51, but still see the blue arrow.

Thanks for the help.

Go into your Downloads folder in Explorer. Then set the cursor into its address bar. What path does it say?

Note that directory names are localized in Explorer but not in TC, which always shows what's on disk (or the file-system).

The image is there, but it's really small (55x20 pixels). At first I thought there is no image (or something in my browser is blocking it), too.

Did you perhaps move the Downloads folder to a new location via its properties (tab "Path")? If so, you can move it back the same way.

Ahh, now I get it - I thought that it < https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/arrowadd.png > was part of imgbox's interface to add an image.

I can now see that the arrow icon is the same icon as Windows 10 use for the Users Download folder based on the info in the folders desktop.ini file:

Code: Select all

[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21798
IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-184
So it is this icon: https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/downloadicon.png

The blue arrow indicates that the download directory, just as the Desktop and the Pictures directory, is a part of the fast access directories as known by the File Explorer. Nothing unusual.

The icon may not be unusual, but the directory name certainly is. Windows since Vista uses English directory names by default (though I'm not sure how the CJK editions are handled). The names are then localized, i.e. shown in the system's UI language, in Explorer and its common dialogs like Open and Save dialogs by means of desktop.ini and some directory attributes.
