Compare by contents : UTF8 files problem…

Post by *Clo »

:) Hello All!

:| The Search didn't return any convenient anterior thread, so I present here the following problem :

• When I compare two UTF8 text-files by their contents - i.e. 7Zip language-files -, the text is wrongly displayed in the compare-panels of TC 6.03a.
- One gets something like this
- If a difference is located among some “fancy” characters, isn't possible to know easily what this difference is…

• This occurs under Win 98SE (wich doesn't support fully UTF8, normally), but also under Win XP-Pro, while the “rustic” Notepad of XP displays the same files properly…
• Can somebody confirm this ?

- From this, I express a wish : to get a support for UTF8 in the "Compare" panels, with a tick-box to enable that…
…like you can see on the piece of capture above as (Wish)

 Kind regards,
Claude
Clo

Indeed UTF8 isn't currently supported in compare by contents, only UTF16. I will consider adding it.

I also recently came across the problem of lack of support for UTF8 in compare-by-content function...

As I deal with UTF8 files a lot nowadays, it would be great if it could be added to TC :) - just like in find-in-files function :)

What about this issue? Can it be done?

Regards
Leepa
