WCX 'Associate' dialog woes

Post by *MarkFilipak »

Hi All!

I've been using TC for 21 years and I've never been able to figure out 'Configuration' > 'Plugins' > 'Packer plugins (.WCX)' > 'Associate'. Here's the 'Associate' dialog:

All files with extension (ending with): [_______________v] <<--'extension' drop-down
Associate with:
0,C:\totalcmd\plugins\wcx\msi\msi.wcx
223,%COMMANDER_PATH%\plugins\wcx\7zip\7zip.wcx
23,C:\totalcmd\plugins\wcx\TotalISO\TotalISO.wcx

When I select one of the plugins (e.g. msi.wcx) the 'extension' drop-down remains blank. If I then use the drop-down to select 'msi', an alert box appears that says: "The association for the extension . was changed. Save?" No matter whether I answer 'Yes' or 'No', the next time I open the 'Associate' dialog and select one of the plugins (e.g. msi.wcx), the 'extension' drop-down is blank once again. Also, if I try to change 2 or more associations, they all change to the most recent drop-down selection.

I have no idea what I'm doing. Can you help?

Ah, I see. ...The 'Associate' dialog is backwards! Gosh, I wonder why I never thought of that before now.
I have to select the extension drop-down first, then select the wcx.

The help for 'Dialog box: Associate' is pretty much unreadable, especially the entries for 'New' and 'Edit type'.

Is that enough complaining? Yeah, I think so. Hahaha... (I feel better.)

The Help is somewhat misleading because the same help is also used for the "Associate" dialog for Winows associations (Menu -> "Files" -> "Associate With"), not just for WCX associations.
