TC always prompts for file associations

Post by *BrainSlugs83 »

I have my file associations set properly in explorer -- right click -> open with, chose the program, checked the box. -- No problem in Explorer, it works every time.

Even set my default image viewer in the Windows 10 control panel... no issues there. Everything in Windows 10 knows I want to use Irfanview.

But in TC if I click on a jpeg, it prompts me to choose a default program EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. -- Doesn't matter if I click the box or not, nothing happens.

This has been an issue since at least 8.5, I just updated to 9.51, and I still have this same issue, it makes me want to pull my hair out.

Make an TC internal association and the problem is fixed.

BrainSlugs83,
I've had the same problem some time ago, IIRC one needed to remove the .JPG association from the registry and let it re-create itself.
Don't remember the exact details, though, unfortunately.

@Horst.Epp how is that done? -- I'm not seeing anything in the options menu. -- And the prompt appears to be originating from TC and not windows -- so even though I click the "always" button, nothing happens.

And is there seriously no option to make it just use what's registered in Windows?

Ahh that's a weird place for that option, was not expecting it there. -- It does say it's associated with irfanview -- and I verified the path and command line were correct.

(The exact command is: "C:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_view64.exe" "%1")

And under edit type, I clicked the "set as default option" button to be sure. -- Still no dice, it still prompts me every time.

You mentioned a registry setting?

I guess you used "Associate Windows (Overall)" and not "Associate Internal (Only Total Commander)"

What do you mean by "checked the box"? Is it the box. ""Always use this app to open .jpeg files"?

I suggest that you right click on a .jpeg file and choose the "Open with..." option, and then choose "Choose another app" and remember to check the box "Always use this app to open .jpeg files".

Remember to do it for .jpg files too.

If it doesn't help, try temporarily to associate to another app/program and then afterwards associate it back to to your favorite program again.
