Comments and Emoji

Post by *frankk_ »

Hi.
TC doesn't have the ability to give a color label to a file so I tried typing emoji in file comments, but it doesn't work.... such a colored stamp from Win+. would be a perfect ersatz instead of a colored label in my case.

Is there any way to allow Windows Emoji in comments but have the same form visually? I mean if I type something yellow 😊 it should be yellow in comments, or something red 💋 it should stay red....

Cheers
Frank

Well, the descript.ion file is a plain text file with no graphics.

The format is based on a 4DOS specification which is supported by Total Commander too.
The original format uses 7 bit ASCII characters only. TC additional supports UTF-8 encoding.
Inserting an emoji by Win+. will insert a character in UTF-8 encoding e.g. ❤ is stored as hex E2 9D
This means even a "❤" is just a character like "A" or "B".
The display of this character is based on the font you use for this purpose.
The color of a character is usually handled separately by an additional formatting notation.

AFAIK neither the 4DOS specification nor TC has a definition of any format notation.

You could change the text color of the file name depending on the comment. Please follow these steps:
1. Chose Configuration - Options - Color
2. Click on "Define colors by file type"
3. Click on "Add"
4. Click on "Define..."
5. Open the "Plugins" tab
6. Open the combo box "Properties" and choose "Comment"
7. OP should be "contains"
8. Value can be whatever you want, e.g. a word, a * or a number
9. Click "OK"
10. Enter a name, e.g. "like"
11. Click "OK"
12. Choose "like" from the list
13. Click OK
14. Choose a color
15. Click OK

I recommend using dark colors in normal mode, and bright colors in dark mode, otherwise the text will get hard to read.
