"Open with" does end with error
Opening files like mkv using BSPlayer does not work in TC, opening same files does work from File Explorer.
Nor works pressing enter, nor using RMB -> menu "open with".
Windows Media Player and VLC media player opens the files fine.
Any suggestions please? I am used to use BSPlayer.
"BS.Player cannot play the media file.
You don't have necessary codec installed, file may damaged or not media file.
Click 'Find codec' to try to find codec"
Nor works pressing enter, nor using RMB -> menu "open with".

Re: "Open with" does end with error
Your description is a bit chaotic - you claim the file opened from Explorer plays fine in BSPlayer? I don't think so.
This error has nothing to do with TC or the way the file was opened.
VLC uses own framework to decode video, while WMP uses DMO or Media Foundation codecs.
This is system and BSPlayer issue. Just install LAV Filters as BSPlayer offers.
Are you familiar with the concepts of video codecs?
MKV is a so-called container that can contain video compressed with one of many video codecs, audio compressed with an audio codec as well as other streams, e.g. subtitles.
You need the right codec to decode audio and video, and different programs require different kinds of codecs. Some programs use their own frameworks to decode audio and video (e.g. VLC, MPlayer)

Re: "Open with" does end with error
Yes im 100% sure it opens fine.
And yes, im familiar with video codecs, containers etc. Worked with Avisynth for years.

Asking at TC forums because it seems that TC passes information to BSPlayer different way than FileExplorer.

You say that "Windows Media Player" and "VLC media player" work for you, called from TC, but BSPlayer does not work for you that way?
Mayby check out the Menu "Files > Associate Internal (only in TC)" if there is something configured?

Are you perhaps running TC "As Administrator" (aka: with elevated rights) - this will also load BSPlayer as administrator, and maybe that is the cause of the problem.

Re: "Open with" does end with error
in some cases the TC opened a video file, but i did not find the pattern.
Re: "Open with" does end with error
OK, i did some more tests.
BSplayer allows more instances.
when open a file from FileExplorer and video is playing, i switch to TC:
When i press Enter on another video it does no action (it should play it)
When i press Enter second time, it plays it normally.
If another BSPlayer instance is not running, then pressing an Enter on a video causes the errormessage.

Re: "Open with" does end with error
As admin - probably not. Thank you petermad!
Find out that all is running fine if running TC by doubleclick its icon.
But
If i open TC from Everything: $exec("C:\wincmd\TOTALCMD.EXE" /O /T /A /L="%1")
Then the problems starts
Any idea please, how to run it from Everything correctly?

Re: "Open with" does end with error
yes. it is.
and also i run TC using autohotkey and the issue is there too.
even if trying to run as admin:
Run *RunAs %exe_tc% /i="%wincmd_ini%" /f="%wincmd_ftpini%", ,Max

Re: "Open with" does end with error
seems not connected with running as admin
Re: "Open with" does end with error
Regarding administrator/no administrator in Everything, perhaps this post will help.Terka wrote: 2022-04-01, 09:49 UTC As admin - probably not. Thank you petermad!

Debug console window:
Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C -> Editor: Ctrl+V
Example for "No administrator" and infos from debug console window:
IsAdmin 0
AppData 0 ... portable use of Everything
Service 1 ..... Everything Service
cmdline "C:\Tools\Everything\Everything64.exe" ... Everything 1.5 Alpha
Everything - Context menu entries

You can see if TC is running as administrator by looking at TC's Title bar - there will be a ^ after the user name.As admin - probably not. Thank you petermad!

Which version of Everything are you using?
Version number and 32 bit or 64 bit? (Menü "Help" - "About Everything...")
Especially in the case of problems, it can't hurt to give the Windows version number and bitness,
especially if you have already been asked to do so by another forum member (Stefan2).
Btw., there is an interesting test result regarding 'Everything' => TC when using context menu items in 'Everything':
Everything 1.5.0.1305a (x64)
- Total Commander is closed
Windows 10 Pro (x64) Version 21H2 (OS build 19044.1620) | TC 10.00 x64/x86
'Everything' 1.5.0.1305a (x64) | 'Everything' 1.4.1.1016 (x64) | Everything 1.4.1.1015 (x64)

I would expect Total Commander (x64) 10.00 to open, as this is what was set in Everything:
Command: $exec("D:\Daten\Programme\Totalcmd\TOTALCMD64.EXE" /O /A /S "%1")
However, I don't think it is worth investigating this issue further.
