[TC 11.03] Add more info to history.txt + update to internal help

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[TC 11.03] Add more info to history.txt + update to internal help

Post by *miskox »

Maybe this line could be changed from:
03.11.10 Added: wincmd.ini [Configuration] MinimizeOnClose: Minimize main window instead of closing it 1: when clicking on [X] button, 2: On Alt+F4, 3: both (note: Hold down shift when clicking on [X] to force close)
to:
03.11.10 Added: wincmd.ini [Configuration] MinimizeOnClose: Minimize main window instead of closing it 1: when clicking on [X] button, 2: On Alt+F4, 3: both (note: Hold down shift when clicking on [X] to force close or use Files -> Quit)
Internal help should be updated too.
MinimizeOnClose=0 Minimize main window instead of closing it. Sum of:
1: when clicking on [X] button
2: On Alt+F4 keyboard shortcut
4: Click on function key button "Alt+F4 Exit"
Note: Shift key forces close
Should 'when' be changed to 'When' (as 'On' and 'Click' both start with capital letter)?

Confirmed. But it's the other way around, help should be updated and history.txt could be update (or not).

I any case, the help should explain it better than history.txt and not the other way around.

I don't think that Files->Quit needs to be mentioned. It's clearly described that value 1 controls the X button, and value 2 the Alt+F4 combination.

It's hardly clearly described. Do you want to provide minimal information which might just be enough for users to understand it. Or do you want explain it clearly?

Suggestion:
MinimizeOnClose=0: Minimize Total Commander instead of closing it. Sum of:
1: Minimize when clicking the [X] button
2: Minimize when pressing Alt+F4
4: Minimize when clicking the "Alt+F4 Exit" function key button or pressing Alt+X
To close Total Commander, hold down the Shift key while using one of these methods (except for Alt+X), or use menu option Files -> Quit.

You did add info about menu option Files -> Quit, but not about Alt+X. And it's still poorly described in broken English. Why didn't you use my suggestion?

I didn't mention Alt+X in the help because it may be different in other languages, and it's standard behaviour that an underlined letter activates a button.

I assume you use the German interface language, because for English there is no underlined letter on the Alt+F4 button. Furthermore, an access key defined there is additional to the already existing Alt+X keyboard shortcut. If you define another access key for the button in any language, that keyboard shortcut will be additional to Alt+X. So Alt+X always works unless you reassign it AND it is not the access key for the Alt+F4 button, or unless you configure Quick search to be activated by Alt+Letters.

Isn't the Alt+X keyboard shortcut a very old leftover from Turbo Pascal where it was used to exit the program to MS-DOS?
