[TC11.50b2] UC2 in preferences

Post by *MaxX »

I can see an option to set the path for UC2.exe in gui preferences now.
Is it still needed, or is it just forgotten there?

TC can still open and extract UC2 files when the path is given. But for packing UC2, there is no longer an option in the "Pack files" dialog (Alt+F5). It's place in that dialog is replaced by 7-ZIP

But I assume that in the Zip dialog you can select, for example, ZIP and in front of the archive name replace zip with uc2.

Yes, that works - but is it documented in the Help that you can use other packer names than the ones you can select cia the radio buttons.

Also, if there is not a valid path to the UC2 packer in the "Packer" configuration dialog you cannot pack UC2 files this way.

It says in the help:
Dialog box: Pack

With this dialog box, you can make settings for packing files. The files are then packed externally by one of the packers pkZIP, ARJ, LHA, RAR, UC2 or ACE. Total Commander contains an internal ZIP packer. This packer supports most PKzip functions. After packing with the internal ZIP packer the ZIP file is automatically checked for errors. This can be aborted without the ZIP being deleted. The check can be disabled entirely by setting VerifyZip=0 in wincmd.ini, section [Packer].

Important: You must specify the correct packer (zip, arj, lha, rar, uc2 or ace) in front of the archive file, separated by a colon (:). Otherwise, the selected files will be copied/moved instead!
So, yes it does actually say that.

But you get an error message saying you need to install and configure an external packer for that and then it opens the configuration dialog for that.

There is however a problem when typing uc2 in front of the archive name and trying to pack. If you open the pack dialog again the filename extension of the archive is "uc2", even when you click the radio buttons of other packers.

Ahh, yes - I looked for the info in the paragraph "Pack n files to the archive" - I didn't think to look above that paragraph.

Yes, I noticed that too - I think this qualifies as a bug.

Also, if I prepend with 7-zip: I get a copy of the file, not a valid archive. I have to prepend with 7z: - that is why I think the label on the radio button should not be 7-ZIP, but 7Z - and 7Z should be added to the list under "Important:" in the Help.

Interestingly I can prepend with either lzh: or lha: - I get a valid .lzh file in any case
