[Request] MediaTransferProtocol (MTP, PlaysForSure) support

Post by *xdcdx »

I would like to request Media Transfer Protocol (also called MTP or PlaysForSure) support.

This is a transfer protocol designed by Microsoft, basically for copying music to portable mp3 players. It is automatically installed when you install Microsoft's Windows Media Player 10.

Devices supporting this protocol show up in 'My Computer' like other USB storage devices but won't show in Total Commander.

Here you can find the specification: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dnwmt/html/mtp_spec.asp
and here a development kit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7976db5d-afa4-4dff-83bd-3f83635d2d5b&displaylang=en

You may try to ask for this in the plugins forum, it would be a nice file system plugin project...

TC incorrectly displays the names of files when the protocol MTP (eg - with smartphones).

File: 1111.2222.3333.4444

The Left panel (folder PC):
Name Type
1111.2222.3333 4444

The Right panel (folder smart phone):
Name Type
1111.2222 3333

Windows Explorer:
Name Type
1111.2222.3333.4444 File "4444"

Sure?
Or was it:

Code: Select all

Name Type
1111.2222.3333 File "4444"
Anyway, I guess it's the old new thing that explorer hides file extensions for known file types (btw. which is the default option to install trojans and viruses like Nude.Jpg.Exe ;-).
And TC uses a windows function from explorer to get the directory list.

- Open Explorer
- Organize -> Folder and search options -> View
- uncheck [_] Hide extensions for known file types

Regards
Holger
