[BUG] TC doesn't close Irfan/XN after Thumbs

Post by *Hacker »

Configure IrfanView or XnView as the source for thumbs in thumbnail view.
Switch to Thumbnail view.
Switch back to normal view.
Go into task manager. IrfanView (or XnView) is still running, though it should not be.

Confirmed ...

... and the same behaviour for QuickView.

In both cases IrfanView / xnView are not closed before TC is closed.

hey guys and what is wrong on that?
I tested it just with Irfanview but it stays im memory as subprocess of TC even if you simply press F3 or Ctrl-Q on .jpg.
As soon as you close TC, Irfanview is going away as well. According to Process Explorer Irfanview takes just 2MB of private memory (not swappable) and ~30MB Virt size (swappable). So why to release and reload that process after each picture? I think on this lightweight programs it is welcomed, don't you?

Actually I cannot confirm that, XnView (RC6) gets closed after TC close.

Only problem with that is what i wrote on the XnView forum: I cannot change XnView options.

All versions of xnView and IrfanView get closed *after* TC is closed.

Well, the viewer is kept in memory for 1 minute for speed reasons, e.g. to view multiple files in lister, or to load multiple thumbnails. After 1 minute of inactivity or when you close TC, the viewer will be closed too!

:) Good evening,

- This sounds as a good trick ;)
- Although that doesn' disturb me at all, maybe some users would whish that this timer-delay be adjusted ?
For instance, an INI entry or so ? Just a thought…

That sounds reasonable, however, it doesn't seem to work. I entered Thumb view, changed back to Brief view, waited for 5 minutes and XnView is still in memory.
