That's a very sweeping statement that can easily be disproved. Xerox PARC, famous for inventing the mouse, GUIs, object-orientated programming, laser printers, amongst many other inventions, is also well-known for its relaxed work-place attitudes. No one thinks it unusual if you show up at work in tee-shirt, shorts and sandals there. A friend used to work at TANDEM, one of the pioneers of non-stop computer systems and at its think-tanks bean-bags were the norm for seating as well as relaxed dress-codes and a fun perspective.

Believe it or not, at some enlightened top universities you aren't punished and expelled for hacking into their systems for fun. Instead they recognise the curiosity that young, intelligent minds have and that you're not BAD - you're really GOOD!

If you give it a moment's thought you'll realise that the very best ideas come when you're thoroughly relaxed and happy with your surroundings and not in a rigid, tightly-controlled atmosphere, fearing your boss, teachers, wife, etc.

Remember, Archimedes allegedly got his eureka moment while happily sittiing in his bath.

I think you may be missing the point. Please don't equate being relaxed and happy at work with red noses and clown suits. Just because you enjoy your workplace does not imply that you're in any way incompetent or unprofessional in what you do. I would've thought that was self-evident.

There is simply NO circumstance I can imagine where I would prefer the people in charge to be unhappy at their job. Not the pilot of my airplane, the driver of the car I'm in, the dentist working on my molar, or the restaurant cook - and yes, please God, most definitely NEVER the staff at a nuclear power reactor. Anyone dissatisfied (for whatever reason) is by implication diistracted and under stress, and stressed people make hasty, ill-considered decisions with possibly disastrous outcomes.

I heard that at Google, you can find all kind of relaxed behaviors - it is not unusual you find its employis on the rollers in the office...

When I was applying for Rockstar Games (GTA, Max Payne...) and had some interviews with their pshilogyst, she asked me can I work in relaxed atmoshpere and would I like to come to their drum & base party in Vienna. As you may know, Rockstar is one of the most succesiful gaming companies around....

Anyway, I also support this feature, but Ghisler is no Santa so "present" is not in his vocabulary.
