Separate tree: Wrong [+]

Separate tree: Wrong [+]
The separate tree initially shows [+] in front of all folders. It should show [+] only in front of folders that contain at least 1 subfolder, of course.

Cannot confirm.

Confirmed with XP prof. SP2Juergen wrote:The separate tree initially shows [+] in front of all folders. It should show [+] only in front of folders that contain at least 1 subfolder, of course.
The [+] disappears where it doesn't belong, when you click on it.
But it does re-appear, when you switch through the panel options
and re-arrive where you "fixed" it.
Everyone believing in telekinesis, raise my hand!
Re: Separate tree: Wrong [+]
Should it? This might make things slower, especially in very large dirs containing many subdirs. Perhaps (if it is done) an INI option should exist for this, turning it on/off.Lesmo16 wrote:Should be fixed.

Yes, of course! No question that I want a file manager to give me correct information about files and folders.wanderer wrote:Should it?Lesmo16 wrote:Should be fixed.
Since the Windows Explorer shows the directory tree properly, TC should be able to do so, too.

I agree with Flint - on my computer the [+] sign is shown only for those subfolders that do have at least one subfolder inside.
Testet Win XP SP2 on NTFS partition. I wil test on FAT partitions when i come home from work.
EDIT: For file system plugins it is correct that the [+] is shown even though no subfolder exist.

"+" is currently shown in front of all _virtual_ folders like "My Computer", because it's too slow to determine that state. For normal directories, it's only shown if there are subdirectories, though. So the current behaviour is by design.

Sorry, but this is not true on my system. There are some normal folders on my desktop, which I have manually created myself some time ago (using TC 6.54a). The folders don't even have the "system" attribute or something. The separate tree of TC 7.0 initially shows a [+] in front of those folders, although they don't contain any subfolders.ghisler(Author) wrote:For normal directories, it's only shown if there are subdirectories, though.

Maybe it's O/S related then. This doesn't happen in my Win2KSP4 PC. If a folder does not contain subfolders, no + is shown...Juergen wrote:Sorry, but this is not true on my system.

2Lefteous and Mr. Ghisler:
I see now, thanks for the explanation. Then I can confirm that the separate tree works as designed on my system.
However, it means that it will often show me wrong [+] marks in front of folders on my desktop.

That would be fine for me, personally, since I'll get my new PC hopefully in 4 days or so.Lefteous wrote:Maybe a switch could be introduced to enable this on fast machines.
