About Explorer Plus, don't you think it is somewhat... BLOATED !!!
You have to download 8.8 MB plus 10.2 MB for the "expansion pack" !!
And of course pay $39.95 Just to find out that it is way more limited that TC.

No, thanks. I will stick to TC. Years ago I made the mistake to buy PowerDesk and I learned my lesson.
BTW. These people are the same wackos who created the infamous Zip Magic which causes so many problems when used with TC or WinRAR.
:P

2lzvk25: I totally agree…
I´ve only worked with TC as a file manager, before this topic came up. (with the exception of Explorer)
I gave some of the file managers a try. But seriously…I´m surprised how limited they are compared to TC. So now I´m totally convinced…TC is the only file manager worth working with.

lzvk25,
I'd never use anything but Total Commander either, but Christian has graciously allowed this topic for discussion of other file managers for those people who may not think that Total Commander is for them, i.e. it doesn't work the way they work.

I have a newbie-ish friend who hates the Norton Commander style file managers but loves the way Windows Explorer works. ExplorerPlus is a perfect fit for him.

I also figure this is a very handy way for Christian to keep an eye on the competition. He can check out what they are up to and implement any ideas they come up with that he deems suitable for inclusion in Total Commander.

Now as for it being bloated, well, the program file size is fairly big, but there's a couple of utilities included in there besides a file manager. And as for the expansion pack, don't freak out on that. It's just a custom version of QuickView Plus that only works with ExplorerPlus.

The one feature I love though about ExplorerPlus is the filetips showing a thumbnail of JPGs, GIFs, etc. in a user-definable size when you hover over the filenames. Wish there was a way to get that into TC somehow.

And yeah, those guys are the ones who came up with ZipMagic. It was brilliant when first released, but stagnated never really keeping up to date with other file formats and Windows conventions.

Oh...and yeah, overall ExplorerPlus is way more limited than TC. :)

xplorer2 is final now!
It's a compact 550kb 3+1 panes Explorer alternative with features not available in TC:

-multiple, saveable temporary file containers aka scrap containers used for extremely powerful searching and other file operations
-creating hard links
-integrated viewer corner and text editor
-autoresize columns
-powerful file/folder filters (rules) including ability to mark files containing specific text, meta data, etc...
-clickable hyperlinks in column header for easy folder switching
-link creation from files in clipboard
-folder tree creation
-create new file without opening notepad
-copy panel data to clipboard
-file touch
-file shredder
-command console including a powerful scripting wizard
-...

Price is EUR 19.95 after 21 days of shareware testing.
There is a lite version, too, but it has no scrap containers and misses some of the other great features.

You do know that our coach is German, don’t you? ;)

So, I guess for the very first time in football history the result of the finals will be even! :P

PS: Sorry to all for being of topic but the topic we picked up is a welcome one I think to most of you! :D

Most important thing: nice games and 3 minutes time after the regular time :-) (as long, as Germany is not beaten in this time of course...)

Now I've got to go home, change clothes, go to the pub and watch Czechia and Germany win. Best would be Greece vs. Germany in the final, and I don't mind, if Greece wins!!

Sorry for being ot, too.

The Lite version is scarp it doesn't even contain its own search function.
I tried the pro version. Some nice features but a lot of things missing compared to TC. No Archive support, only ZIP if windows supports it, like in XP and ME. Some stupid bugs like aborting a long file delete if one file is locked (no asking for skip or continue).
No FTP support, only by using the windows functions.

What I would like to see in TC is the View definitions with support for all columns windows supports.

The Lite version is scarp
scarp? You mean crap?
I mentioned that the search function is missing above. Scrap containers are the reason why people will prefer x2 over TC when searching (I do already, that integrated viewer is simply great when it automatically marks found "contained text" when searching) and so it's rather intelligent to not include it in lite version.
There is no TC lite version so this is not an argument anyway. ;)

Facts:
1. TC has some unique features and misses some of x2.
2. x2 has some unique features and misses some of TC.
This is version 1.0.0.0, don't forget that...

Germany - Netherlands 3:2, btw... ;)
