Some serious TC7pb2 issues on WinVista x64 edition

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Some serious TC7pb2 issues on WinVista x64 edition

Post by *sangwooksohn »

Today, I clean installed Windows Vista x64 on my computer.
As soon as installation of the new OS is finished, I installed TC7pb2.
Installation went smooth, and TC7pb2 seemed to work okay.
However, there were major issues occuring once I started normal explorer stuffes.

1. While copy and paste of selected file(s) work well inside TC7pb2, copy and paste of file(s) from Windows Explorer to TC7pb2 is not working. And vice versa.

2. Drag n' Drop of file(s) from Windows Explorer to TC7pb2 is not working. And vice versa.

There was no error message, or anything. It just didn't work at all.

Thanks.

This is probably a problem of different elevation levels of the two apps. You cannot drag&drop files between programs with different elevation levels.

Ghisler,

Thanks for your input.
Do you have any workaround to make it work?

And BTW, I am running Windows Vista as Administrator.
Not a user with administrator right, but Administrator user.

Thanks.

The copy+paste issue seems to be more x64-related than Vista-related. The same problem with copy+paste was found on WinXP x64 too:

No, this thread is refering to something completely different.

On XP64, just the copying to the right system32 directory fails. On Vista64, ALL copy+paste seems to fail...

Ah, I see. I'll try to install Vista x64 on VMware and check there...

So will this be fixed in future release?
Just wondering. :)

I'm sorry but this seems to be by design - you simply cannot exchange messages with applications having a different elevation level.

I've tried this on my XP64 and it's even worst.
It doesn't display many folders inside system32 directory, it's only showing 21 out of 37 that exists there.
I found this while I was trying to edit the hosts file, which I can find using TC... :(

I'm just adding my two cents here... If you want me to test or try something different, let me know...

Thanks Christian and all the crew for such an amazing soft...

Regards,
Germán
( from Argentina, in a lower elevation level :P )

Hi DKG!
Please take a look at:
http://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php/Total_Commander_for_Windows_XP_64-bit
for some workarounds to turn the redirection off.

Today, I clean installed Windows Vista Ultimate x64 English and worked for a while, then I formatted my HDD and installed Korean version of WinVista Ultimate K x64.

After series of installing Windows Vista again and again, now I can confirm the reported bug is not affecting when Windows Vista is clean installed. I must have messed up at some point.

Anyway, I can confirm after clean installation of Windows Vista x64, I CAN copy+paste or drag n' drop file(s) using TC7pb2.

I appologize for the confusion.

Thanks.

From cluberti @ msfn forum
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=88414&st=0&p=597099&#entry597099
The first GUID is for shdocvw.dll, and the second GUID is supposed to represent the "Shared Folders" global folder. What it looks like is that there was something wrong with shdocvw, and instead of your system showing the "Shared Folders" icon, it was showing the GUIDs for the code path that would've been used (shdocvw would've been called to display the folder and it's icon, but instead of showing the Shared Folders folder, it showed a folder with the shdocvw GUID). It would also cause all of the other "User" folders that normally get displayed there to either not display, or display as GUIDs as well (which it looks like that is what happened from the screenshot to the Administrator's folder).

Problems with shdocvw would also cause drag-and-drop and other OLE problems as well, so that would also explain problems with programs that register with shell extensions.
Now it explains what have gone wrong which I have been wondering.

Thank you for the useful information! Please let us know if you find out what is causing shdocvw to fail. Maybe it's caused by the installation of some program which isn't fully compatible with Vista64...

Well, I figure what have caused this.
It's 'x64DisableRedirection=1' entry in 'wincmd.ini'.
If I remove 'x64DisableRedirection=1' entry, I can can copy & paste and I do not see GUID numbered folders. :)
