Current directory and CMD line on the layout are not correct

Post by *dyhan81 »

Current directory and CMD line on the layout are not correctly showed in the two byte character directory names.

and such bugs affect some kind of commands such as copy, move, etc.

Example:
1. copy [test.txt] file from [C:\test] to [C:\test\マニュアル\]
2. [test.txt] file copyed nomally, but name has corrupted as [tes] (I think that 2-byte length characters are regarded as 1-byte characters.

Unfortunately I could not reproduce this error. I started the Japanese version of Windows 95 and entered the dir name "manual" (manyuaru) in Katakana as above. Then I copied a file test.txt from c:\test to this directory. The directory was shown correctly
- above the file lists
- to the left of the command line
- in the progress dialog
- in the overwrite confirmation dialog

Could you please send me a screenshot of the error you have to beta at ghisler dot com? I also need to know
1. What Windows version you use
2. What are the language settings for non-unicode programs (in Control Panel - regional settings)?

Thanks for your help!

Cannot reproduce on a non-japanese Windows system (which is no wonder because TC is not fully unicode-compliant: directory "マニュアル/" shows as "389B~1/" after entering it, and copying works fine)

You need to install MS Applocale..

Most of all I agree with your opinion. It shows as like that, before installing "code-page converting table" on Control Panel. However, two-byte code support is necessary for Total Commander in that it is used for various language versions of Windows system.

If you need to run any two-byte code based legacy application, perhaps, you need also to use any file management application. (I think Total commander is most right software yet.)

Thanks for your screenshots. Could you please also answer my two questions?

1. What Windows version you use
2. What are the language settings for non-unicode programs (in Control Panel - regional settings)?

OK.

1. MS Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (SP2) Korean (SLP Licensed)
2. Korean(한국어)

In addtion,
I've observed same symphotom on the Windows XP Professional VLK + MUI (Korean), which selected Korean on the Control Panel - Regional Settings.

Thank you for your attempt. :)

I see - TC doesn't currently support Japanese on Korean Windows. You can enter such a directory if it has a valid DPS 8.3 name (you can see this by temporarily disabling long name support in the configuration of TC.

I will try to reproduce what you describe, but I fear that I can only change it in TC 7.5 or 8 when I will convert everything to Unicode.
