Deleting Slugish

Post by *AnthonyCian »

Hello

For some reason I was deleting about 100 small file size files using TC and noticed the speed was real slow, it took awhile to delete all the files. I compared this using Windows Explorer and deleted another similar set of 100 files, and boom it was a lot faster.

I did a forum search and found out that TC has a problem when deleting files, that it is slow. I tried a few suggestions, one was to turn off, [Calculate space occupied by subdirectories, Before copying/deleting]. This did not improve the speed, so I turned it back on. Another suggestion was to check, Use Explorer delete method. This worked!

Which brings me to ask, are there plans to fix this issue or leave it as is? I really never noticed the deleting of files was this slow before and wondered if it really is TC or something else? I know if the anti-virus was scanning in background it would cause things to run slow, but there was nothing running in background to hog memory. Interesting...

When you are using the TC deleting method, you might try disabeling "Configuration" -> "Operation" -> "File comments" -> "Copy comments with files". That might speed up things a bit because TC don't have to update descript.ion files while deleting.

You might also want to turn off logging of deletions: "Configuration" -> "Log file" -> "Log operations:" -> "Delete" to speed up deleting files.

You should also check your recycle bin - emptying it regularly will speed up deleting a lot.

Today TC deleted files pretty quick, so it must of been something running in background causing TC be slow in deleting the files. But then when using WinExplorer the delete was real fast.

I always keep the recycle bin empty, have a habit of that. And about the options petermad suggested were already off.

I never noticed TC being slow when deleting files, it usually goes pretty good, but for some weird reason it was slow yesterday. Oh well, thanks for the suggestions.
