If you have lister plugin for viewing this files, TC may use this plugin for retrieving thumbs. Also check Configuration - Thumbnails page, group 'Loading thumbnails'. Check if first checkbox is checked and *.* is in first text field. If you have no plugin for lister, but you can view thumbnails in Explorer window, check second checkbox and field. Default value here is *.* | *.htm *.html.

Yes, I can view thumbnails in Explorer.
TC 7.02 is also showing thumbnails on my privat computer, but not here on job after I installed TC 7.5.
I have never installed any plugins on my computers.
Settings are default - as you say they should be - but no thumbnails on this PC

By the way, it is a new 64 bit PC - so maybe the update to 7.5 did not cause it.

Will TC 7.5 show ipt and iam thumbs on your 'private computer'? What software you're using for retrieving ipt and iam thumbs in Explorer? Or you didn't install any special software besides Inventor?

I don't dare to check if TC 7.5 can show ipt and iam thumbs on my 'private computer' :)

Right, I didn't install any special software besides Inventor.

I tried to install another file manager DwgGrid and it also show thumbs for ipt and iam files with no problems.

TC and 64 bit PC

Post by *jens nov »

TC and 64 bit PC:

When I right clik Inventor ipt file, I now get a different window compared to Explorer.
TC did not do that earier.

TC now write X64 as a menu line which leads to a sub window. That's new!

Anyone seen that?
And how to make TC show thumdnails again for Inventor files..

Total Commander is a 32-bit program. It can only show 32-bit shell extensions in the right click context menu. The X64 submenu uses an external program (tcmdx64.exe) to load 64-bit shell extensions, and show them in addition to the 32-bit extensions.
And how to make TC show thumdnails again for Inventor files..
You will need to install the 32-bit version.

Thank you very much. That is clear now.
I don't think we will go back to Inventor 32bit..!!
But I will still use the nice TC - without thumbnails for Inventor files :D

Maybe you can install just the 32-bit shell extension from a 32-bit system?

Normally you copy just the extension dll to the 64-bit system, then write this command:
regsvr32.exe name_of_extension.dll

To find out the name of the extension, you can use shellexview (use forum search to find it). Right click on the extension in shellexview and choose "properties" to see the location of the extension dll.

Thumbnails for Inventor files, .idw , .iam and .ipt

Post by *PFP »

Hi, this problem have been on and off for some time now.

I'm currently on a win 7 pc with TC (x64) 8.52, and am not able to view inventor thumbnails.

I just upgraded to 8.52 today and when I viewed an inventor file in inventor view (in RMB menu) the thumbnails in that folder changed to show the 3D thumbnails of the models. But as I tried to browse to other folders, the thumbs changed back to the generic inventor file thumbs...

Seems like something forces this from working correctly. -By the way Autocad .dwg shows up as drawings allright, so I'm a bit at a loss here...

Thank you for the cool program TC is!
Kind regards,
Peter

Would it be helpful if I sent some inventor files you could test?
Currently Inventor 2014...

No, it wouldn't help. These are probably loaded by an Inventor shell extension.
