Is there a way to set "Auto-rename copied" as a default solution to imminent name conflicts?
This is the situation (and Total Commander does shine here!):
A directory of downloaded JPG files turns out to feature several instances of the same original picture, but with different file names.
By setting the sorting order to "Size", identical copies are adjacent. I can then compare them, and discard the newer one.
But some must differ in their compression history. I then want to keep the largest file (as I take it for being the best preserved one).
These "different copies" do not reveal themselves until I have manually renamed them.
They may be named "456processed123.jpg" and "789edited123.jpg", and I rename them to "123.jpg".
By doing so with sorting order Size - Descending and using Auto-rename Copied, my preferred file will be "123.jpg", my second-best "123(2).jpg", and so on.
I can then set the sorting order to "Name", and easily check before discarding the less than preferred files.
The tricky bit (when trying to be speedy) is navigating to the "More Options" button and then to "Auto-rename copied". If I slide there, my preferred file will be overwritten.
Hence my QUESTION:
Is there a way to set "Auto-rename copied" as a default solution to imminent name conflicts?
