F-shortcuts doesn`t work.

Post by *perege »

Hi all.

First of all I will start by saying that my english is not the best.
Sorry if my spelling is bad.

My problem:

In the buttom of TT 7.50a (at the proces-line) You can see F3-View, F4-Edit, Copy-F5 etc.

Why can`t I activate them on my keyboard?
I have to click on the buttons with my mouse?

I use Vista Home Premium with ServicePack 2.

Please help. :(

Hello and welcome.

The F-keys on the keyboard should work the same way the buttons at the bottom do.

Do the F-keys work in other programs (e.g. F5 for refresh in your browser)?

Maybe perege is looking for a way to set focus on the Function key bar as such - just like Alt+Shift+F11 sets focus on the button bar. There currently isn't such a function.

Do you have any Scripts running in the background, e.g. Autohotkey?

Or perhaps the keys are redefined? You can check this in 'configuration' > 'options' > 'misc' > redefine hotkeys.

If not, you can try to start TC with a blank config. Create a shortcut for TC and add a non-existing ini-file in the properties of the shortcut, e.g.:

Code: Select all

C:\totalcmd\totalcmd.exe /i=blank.ini

I mean instead of clicking with the mouse on the F5-button I want to press the F5-key on the keyboard.

That does not work.

M$ keyboard ?

Post by *Clo »

:) Hello !

• Once, I went at a friend's to install TC, and suffered the same issue ! The “F…” keys didn't work…
… and the cause was that his M$ keyboard has a key to disable them !
- No luck, I don't remember that “brilliant” command, but if you have such a keyboard, please glance its doc, who knows ?
- Of course, here with my old honest Logitech (Swiss) keyboard, no problem at all

In that case your F-keys may be redirected - either by a script or by TC. To find out whether it is TC doing it, do as
StickyNomad suggests - start TC with a new configuration file:
%COMMANDER_PATH%\totalcmd.exe /i=blank.ini

One HP laptop I encountered had such a problem.
The solution was that I had to press the "Fn" keys together with "F3" "F5" etc keys.
Was a new thing for me, might help someone here in the future as well. :)

On my HP laptop I can fortunately change that (stupid) behaviour in the BIOS setup
