Delphi x64 Compiler (beta) coming next week(?) :)

Post by *Kishiro »

Great news for all Delphi/Pascal-programmers around the world ! :D

Delphi x64 used to be a very hot topic for long time … but finally, after a lot of roadmap overhauls and promises from Borland, CodeGear and lately Embarcadero, and after a lot of FUD and “Delphi-is-dead” discussions on various blogs, forums and other Delphi haters, the FIRST, OFFICIAL and PUBLIC release of Delphi 64-bit (beta) was just announced by Embarcadero, and is available here

Wow! I hope it's already good enough to be used instead of Lazarus.

I was actually hoping Mr.Ghisler would continue with Lazarus --- as it seemed the codebase would support more file formats out of the box, without the need for so many plugins to handle anything thats not a text file.
*BLINK* TC9 Added WM_COPYDATA and WM_USER queries for scripting.

I'm a fan of both Lazarus and Delphi. I really don't care which compiler Christian uses. But it's nice that there now is more options to choose from. :D

Well bigger or smaller executable - as there seems to be quite a few problems with Lazarus I hope it just runs as good as the 32 bit version and everything works.

I will definitely have a look at it, because I can't resolve some problems with Lazarus. Unfortunately there is no information when it will be publicly available, and normally it's not allowed to distribute programs created with a beta compiler.

I think it's already ready for testing but they handpick the testers.
It seems Delphi XE and RAD Studio XE users get priority access...
Maybe a personal mail to the Delphi makers mentioning that you are Christian Ghisler, author of Total Commander could accelerate things. Total Commander is the number one Delphi-based 64 Bit-missing tool on the planet.

I think it's very important to find out if it's worth waiting for the final version as soon as possible or follow the Lazarus path instead.
