Recover files, physically there, but not visible for TC

Post by *total_man »

Hi

I could need some help to recover some files that are on my harddrive, but not "seen" by TC or Windows Explorer.

I moved (F6) some files on my Synology DS411+ NAS from one folder to another, and I guess the NAS did a shut down during the operation. Now I can not see those files in neither TC or Windows Explorer.

Similar operation, with other files have been done with no problems.

The files are there, because another program (Kinsky Desktop) can see and use the files with no problems. Further I can see that the files are still taking up space on the harddrives.

The NAS runs in RAID1 (mirroing) mode, 2 harddrives with the same data.
Kinsky Desktop is used to stream and manage music files to LINN audio products.

I think I need to rebuil the file table or something like that??

Yes, you should try a reboot of your NAS, Linux usually makes a disk scan every x days at boot time.

Ext4 file system rebuild

Post by *total_man »

Thanks for the answer.

When looking at file proporties, for the files I can't see in Windows Explorer, in KinskyDesktop (where the files are seen!) there is a path called:
http://[IP of NAS]:50002/m/NDLNA/63793.flac

That must be the Ext4 filesystem path to the file, or what?

Is there a way or a tool to rebuild the ext4 file system, to something usefull for Windows?

I'm not aware of any. You can try to boot from a Linux CD or DVD, and then connect the drive (e.g. via an external USB harddisk case).

I describe this problem because I could't find answer anywhere for my problem and I searched the internet for 3 days to find it.

After deleting viruses with AVAST files were still there physically but not visible.
It was with SD card first. I connected it to the computer with virus. Later I checked this sd card with another computer with AVAST, after deleting viruses folders dissapeared. They were not hidden. Not visible even in Total Commander. But when I went to properties I saw the files still occupy the space on the card. When I connected card to GPS the android program showed the files.

Also the Windows XP with viruses stopped working after scanning and deleting all files with virus - later I couldn't login to the system. I installed another system on one of the other remaining logical drives. Handy Recovery and other paid programs saw the files which were on drive C: but I didn't want to pay money for the full version of it (50USD) in order to recover it.

The answer found after 3 days (mainly searching for the freeware recovery software): Use Free Commmander to copy the files. In this free commander (and maybe other file commanders but not Total Commander) the files are still visible.

I hope you will be blessed. Jesus Christ is Lord! :)

Try to switch off AVAST services before accessing the disk.
