copying hardlinks/junctions in windows 7

Post by *ggiunta »

Sorry if it is a noob question, but is there a way to copy a junction to another folder so that a new junction is created? The default action when I drag-copy the junction is that the junction target is duplicated.

So far I have only found one post mentioning a windows shell extension, but it would be nice to also have a simple modifier key working for the tcmd drag-copy operation...

No, unfortunately not, because normally the result isn't what you need. for example, when copying all files from one harddisk to another, the copied junctions would have to point to the directories on the new harddisk and not on the old. In other cases, the user may actually want to copy the junction unchanged...

I agree with the author. But I would appreciate if TC will know how to create and delete hardlink.

TC already knows how to delete hardlinks and reparse points. :)
BTW, hardlink is not a link at all - every file is hardlink to its content in NTFS.
