[TC8] Add InplaceOkButton to the config dialogues

Post by *karlchen »

Hello, Christian.

Thank you for adding the new InplaceOkButton in T.C. 8ß10. And thank you, too, for allowing me to switch it off again. :D

I suggest to allow the user to switch InplaceOkButton on and off inside the normal configuration dialogues and without having to edit the wincmd.ini file directly.

Kind regards,
Karl

Is there any advantage I am missing from having this disabled?

IMO only few users will disable it, so IMO the current "wincmd.ini" switch is correct. However I would like to have every option available in a redesigned configuration dialog. (I think of something like the command browser with dynamic filtering)

Some time ago I suggested something like UT preferences dialog to change any existing INI option.

Whenever the TC uses a "manually modified" Ini, it should offer a preferences dialog like the shown above (UT preferences dialog, example from UT-Viewer). For standard-settings the normal options-dialog will be sufficient.

For the wincmd.ini it can be in the quickview - therefore we can use this technique to edit all Ini-files with the TC. I have seen that before - when you close the quickview, you will be prompted to save the settings -> OK.

Otherwise, when the TC finds a manually edited wincmd.ini-file, it used to extend -at least- the standard-options to edit the (already existing but thus unchangeable) current settings. I think thats actually meant by saying "filtering".

+ My support!

I thought of something like:

Code: Select all

|------------------------------|------------------------------|
| [x] show extended options | choose a value for the |
|------------------------------| currently selected option |
| Layout options |------------------------------|
| - 1. layout option | this part of the dialog |
| - 2. layout option | depends on the option type |
| - 3. layout option... | - Boolean > Checkbox |
| Display options | - Multivalue > Dropdown |
| - 1. display option | - etc. |
| - 2. display option |------------------------------|
| - 3. display option... | help entry for the currently |
| further options... | selected option |
|------------------------------| |
| Filter list by: "icon" | |
|------------------------------|------------------------------|

Absolutely agree with this idea.

Had stated more than once in other threads that there is no good reason for having configurable settings which are not available in the Configuration => Options dialogue somewhere.

In Firefox, type about:config in the address bar. It will open a complete list with application settings in the browserwindow. The options that have been already set, the type and the current values. http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config

Replace Browserwindow with Quickview, replace the command "about:config" with a new command from the Total Commander and you get this problem solved.

This have also been suggested 10 years ago.

If you want keep the main progamm as slim, fast and stable like before, anybody use to make a Plugin/Addon for it.
