ftp: download in background

there is option to "Download/Upload in background (separate thread)" when transferring files using ftp-client.

I'd like to have option "Download/Upload in background (current thread)" which seems to me to be useful in case
(1) you want to transfer few kilo/mega-bytes (which takes relatively small time amount)
(2) creation of new connection takes quite lot of time (e.g. when using secured connection)
(3) you don't have another reason to keep ftp-connection opened once you transfer your files
(4) you want to have your files transferred (especially in case of download) as soon as possible.
