cannot save a new locked tab

I already have locked tab pointing to 'folder a' on a unix machine. I have repeatedly tried to lock another tab pointing 'folder b' on the same machine using the same FTP connection. Whenever I exit total commander and come back, the tab is gone. I only have one total commander session running and I have also tried saving the configuration files from the menu bar. How do I debug this? Is there some way to fix this without starting from scratch with a new ini file?
