ftp connection

Post by *idr »

About twice a month I used the ftp option in Total Commander for uploading a batch of files to my site. But lately this option ceased to work and I receive an error message “port failed, try PASV mode”. And then “PASV”, and it doesn”t connect to the host.
The support man at my host advised to check the port data (it should be 21) and I added :21 after the server name but it didn’t help and the error messages remain the same.
For the time being I uploaded the files with another ftp client but I would like to use again the Total ftp program, as it is hard at 90 y. to change the habit.
Please advise what can be done.
Thanks

PORT command has nothing to do with the port number. What actually happening is, TC tries to use active mode, fails and tries to fall back to passive mode. Unfortunately, sometimes such procedure does not work, but if you turn on passive mode in your connection details, TC won't even try the PORT command, and everything should work fine.

Using TC 11.03 / Win10 x64

ftp and sftp (plugin) work in most cases. In some cases, it just doesn't work. The way around it is to installed Winscp as a backup. If Totalcmd ftp doesn't work, try Winscp. If Winscp doesn't work, then there is a real issue somewhere, likely at the server. The reverse isn't true :)
