TC as backup tool: significant improvements to make it good

Post by *tetardd »

Hi,

I'm regularly using TC to backup my document folders that contains GB of files. Therefore, I usually run that overnight. There are several issues that make it very clumsy:

1- If it stops because of a message from TC (say I'm asked to skip, abort, retry), that's it, TC sits idle for the whole night and my backup is not complete in the morning. It would be better if the files that can be processed were still being processes and only those that require action where left unprocessed and waiting for user input. This way, in the morning, I just have to click 4-5 times on skip and I'm done.

2- The "Remove write protection" message box forced me today to click a thousand times on "Skip". Can't we have a "Skip all" button there please?
(beside that, I think there may be a bug here as there was no such files with a write protection so I don't understand how this message came up for some many files, I'll have to double-check and raise a separate issue on this).

That's it for now.

This has been requested a couple of times now.

The usual answer to topics like this is that "TC is not a backup or sync tool".

Sometimes feature requests which had been rejected for years have made their way into Total Commander, because users kept on requesting them every once in a while over the years.
So who knows ....

I also would like TC to keep on copying the rest of the files when one file needs extra attention. And that those files will be kept in a queue to be handled later.
Not as a backup function, but when I have a big copy action, even with the presets in the copy dialog i sometimes get an error and I do not want to stay at my computer when i know that the copy action will take an hour or so.

Why not pass on the selected files/folders to a third party application like http://ultracopier.first-world.info/ see info on the Wiki
http://ultracopier-wiki.first-world.info/wiki/Integration_into_Total-Free-..._Commander
and here http://ultracopier-wiki.first-world.info/wiki/Integration_into_Total_commander

This is of course one example, there are other applications you can use.
