This is unfortunately a Windows misfeature: TC does not receive the file extensions from Windows, except when you enable extensions also in Explorer (disable the option to hide extensions of common file types).

F3 isn't possible because there is no file which can be opened, not even a stream via OLE2 calls. The only solution would be to copy the file to the PC first.

I have "hide extensions..." disabled, but associations are still wrong.
About F3, isn't it the same with archives?

What do you mean with "wrong"? Are they still missing, or different?

Is this an internal association in Total Commander? They do not work in virutal folders. Does it open in Windows image viewer too in Explorer?

That's indeed very strange. Apparently there is some kind of ambiguity in the association, so Windows takes one for normal files, and another for virtual files...

Is your device an Android phone? It is much better to use ADB instead of MTP.
We are not so S.M.A.R.T. as we imagine...

ADB doesn't work out of the box. You have to enable USB debugging on the device, and need to install a special USB driver on the PC. That's too much for the average user. MTP is supported via OLE2 interfaces on every PC without any changes.
