Total Commander Keeps asking for Administrator rights

Post by *jazzybob »

When I go to move, delete or copy files the program keeps asking that I click "As Administrator". I am already logged in as the admin, so why does it ask and can I change it so that it doesn't ask?

Please search forum about elevation. Your Windows UAC restricts programs' permissions even when you're an admin. It is done to learn users to separate program files and user files where user files may be modified w/o administrator rights while program files may only be modified with administrator rights (=elevation). So if you need to perform many operations in program files or windows folder, you can start TC elevated via right-click menu item. And, you should add write permissions for user folders that doesn't require administator permissions.

There is a nice setting in TC (wincmd.ini only) that controls how long elevation stays active once granted.

[Configuration]
AdminTimeout=180

This means 180 seconds until TC will ask to elevate again. 0 means no timeout at all.
