TC 8.0 hangs while right clicking in the main directory
I'm a big fan of Total Commander since it was named Windows Commander. I have been using Windows Commander / Total Commander since version 4.50
I have purchased Total Commander since than, and I'm proud of it.
Currently I'm using TC 8.0 64bit on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
My problem that I have since I installed version 8.0 is that, whenever I right click in the main directory of C:\ or even D:\, TC is not showing the menu.
All I see is the loading cursor from Windows 7 and the title from TC 8.0 changes into "not responding".
Only work around is to ctrl+alt+del and forcequit the program.
Only work around, whenever I need to make a new folder under the main directory, is to make a new folder under a folder that already exists, and than move that new folder to the main directory.
I don't have this problem on my 32bit Windows XP (second machine) only on this Windows 7 64bit machine.
I will check the system log to found some more info about this...

Whenever I re-run the procedure to let TC hang, by right-clicking in the main directory, it always creates another entry in the logfiles of Windows 7, with different time and other EventData string, but the only thing that is still the same, is the "Binary data:" stuff.

I do know about these threads.silencer wrote:Don't have any experience on this area, but I see a lot of posts regarding this context menu, so it might be a malfunctioning entry with you too.
Search the forum for "shexview" you will find more threads.
Was wondering if there was a non third party software solution, meaning if this has been fixed in the newest (beta) version?
Or is it more non TC related?
Hopefully there is a permanent solution to this

Correct.Or is it more non TC related?
The shell extensions are often third party products and just loaded by TC.
Unfortunately some of them only works together with Windows Explorer and tend to crash with other programs.
To find the culprit, just use ShellExView.
1. Disable all entries of type "Context Menu" which are not from Microsoft.
2. Reboot your PC
3. Check if the problem has gone
YES => there is a faulty shell extension => Enable half of the entries again
4. Reboot your PC
5. Check if the problem is back again
YES => the culprit is within this half => disable again some entries until problem is gone
NO => the culprit is within the rest => enable some more entries until problem is back again
6. Please report here if you found the culprit shell extension

I have disabled 10 entries that are related to Context Menu, and that are not from Microsoft.sqa_wizard wrote:Correct.Or is it more non TC related?

I rebooted and ...
Same issue!!
Have started to disable some Microsoft stuff 1 and a time.. Currently right click, loading, TC shows menu!!

Well this is odd...
I thought I found the cause of the problem (BriefCase) but it seems to be fixed by itself
I restarted my computer, with all the context menu entries in shexview, disabled "NO" and TC 8.0 64bit shows the menu when I right click it.
I'm sure that .group shell context menu or Briefcase triggered something in the registry, cause as soon as I disabled it, restarted my pc, enabled 1 of the 2, and than later enabled them all again (default), TC shows the menu again. Microsoft always you that needs to ruin the party...

Point is, without joking, I had it back again a few minutes ago. I disabled the 2 items that I mentioned above, Briefcase and .group shell context menu and TC shows back it's lovely right click menu. I think, I will leave it disabled now for the moment and wait, until TC "create" the same issue again. I bet it won't!sqa_wizard wrote:This is possible, other posts also report a kind of "repair" just by disabling and reenabling the entry.but it seems to be fixed by itself
