Multi-rename: how within whole drive? Sub folders?

Post by *My1 »

it would be really nice to get Multi-rename also into folder contents, making renames like exchange underline with space on a whole drive less of a pain.

also it would be nice to only show files and/or folders which are really affected by the rename in other words, where pastname != future name...

If you need to replace underlines with spaces within whole drive, just do a search for files with underline character (using just _ as search mask), feed results to listbox and then select all files and use MRT.

yeah, thx, I didnt thought the "apply" button in the search result list was for importing the search into the list.
Thanks for that. really helpful...

but realized a small problem. it seems to rename folders first, resulting in an error for many of the files on the first try.

but still it is annoying when I select many files for multi rename and many of them are in the list despitte being unchenged.

You're right, renaming folders will make inner items inaccessible.
You can try to find files first (by unchecking directory attribute in search dialog), and then folders (by checking it).
It is possible to select only files first and then only folders from same search results list: Ctrl+Shift+Num+ selects files only, and then Num* deselects all files and selects all folders (Num* inverts selection within files+folders, Shift+Num* inverts selection within files only).

When renaming folders, you need to sort them by names in reversed order to rename inner ones first (option to sort dirs like files must be enabled on Configuration - Display page).

looks like a pain, especially since I really dont like to get the folders within the files, I hope they can do something about this making renaming in logical order or changing the paths in the process so you dont have to make 720 degree rotations where you dont really need it.

TC is really a nice software and maybe I'll buy it then since Multi-rename and dir sync are 2 of the best features from there
